SF Students Without Vaccinations Barred From Class

Hey Everyone! Today, I’m going to be talking about the SF Students Without Vaccinations Barred From Class.
I honestly think that if children are required to get the vaccination, then they should just get it… Why even send your child to school when they are not even protected from the illness? They will be most likely to end up with whooping cough if they are not safe from whooping cough? If this is a requirement, then the parents should follow that rule. I think it should be a law in California, since it is a very serious issue. If the state wishes to reduce the chances of young children receiving the whooping cough, then people should take responsibilities and get their children vaccinated.
If the parents do not take action, eventually their child will be diagnosed with whooping cough. It would be better to just go and get one simple shot and it would not take that long to get one little vaccination.
I think that it would be perfectly fine if there were a couple kids who did not get their vaccination, but this is not the case. Numerous students did not receive their boost shot, which will most likely become a difficult situation if it spreads and it would make the school unsafe for kids to attend.
I personally think that if should just be a requirement or else their child cannot attend school regardless….  Because if one child is infected, then another…. This disease is serious with young children… Why take that risk to have their child suffer from whooping cough?
That’s it everyone! I hope you guys enjoyed this post. Come back soon! Until then, see ya!

Day 3: First Day at Sea

Hey Everyone! Today I’m going to be talking about my first day at sea. We were on our way to Valletta, Malta. It’s been so long since this trip, so I don’t remember much from this day, but I do know that I was just exploring the ship with my new friends. We went EVERYWHERE. This ship was HUGE! But there were so many other people my own age…..well, almost my age…most of them were like 14…but it’s all good. I had fun and that’s all that matters.
We wanted to go swimming, but there were so many kids and we wanted to keep exploring. Everyone woke up late because they were all tired from traveling so far. But we had lunch together and we went to the basketball court. The day was HOT. Even at night it was hot. But anyway, we played some basketball and then we went to the Vibe to see who else was there. We had some smoothies and we played some games. Most of the time we just got to know each other more. We talked about how old we are and where we came from. Half of the people were from the US and the other half were from France, England, Australia, and Britain.
We didn’t have much time to talk though because our first formal dinner night was that day. So we all had to go and shower because we were all sweaty and nasty from being outside. I went back to get ready, and met my family at Animator’s Palate. That was the dining room we used that day. It was cool, but a little creepy because the whole room was basically black and white. So after dinner, we went back to the Vibe because there was a dance every night. I went back to change first.
This is my friend Lauren from Texas!
We danced until like 1 or 2 in the morning. That was when the Vibe was closed and our “curfew” since we were under 18, but of course none of us went back to our stateroom. So we just walked around the ship and played zombie.

It was a fun first whole day on the cruise! I can’t wait until next week where I get to talk about my day in Valletta, Malta. So until then, see ya!

A Response to Stephy Chen's Post

Hey Everyone! Today, I’m going to be responding to Stephy Chen’s Post! I hope we’re not the only ones!
I do not know why I always to publish my posts in the last minutes before twelve o'clock Friday. Why Why Why Why Why Why Why Why Why Why Why Why??? Why I becoming an lazy ass??? I think I just push all the homework at nighttime tries to do them all together at once. As affect, that thus I do not have enough to sleep.

I, unlike Stephy, know why I wait until the very last minute to publish my posts on Friday night. It is because I am a lazy person. I am ALWAYS procrastinating on my homework. When I say “I’m going to get it done tonight”, I really mean, “I’m going to start on it in the morning on the bus”. As a result, I end up staying up late on facebook and chatting with my friends.

But I have an excuse. You see, I have a job that starts after school, so I don’t have time to do my homework before work. But I also do not have time to do my homework after work because I have to go eat dinner, and then “study” for my SATs (Go on facebook). If there were more hours in the day, then I would spend it on doing my homework (Facebook). But we don’t so I can’t help it.

And then I have to go to sleep earlier because I have zero period current life. Do you know that I am NOT a morning person? Well you do now! I cannot wake up when I do not have enough sleep, so I end up being late for class. Well, at least it’s only for a semester right?

Well, I hope you guys liked this post. I’m sure A LOT of you guys do the same thing too! Well hope to hear from you soon! Until then, see ya!

Rough Draft #1, Prompt #2, Biweekly #2

Hey Everyone! Welcome back! Today I'm going to be writing my second Biweekly post. It's the second prompt to my Personal Statement from my first Biweekly. So I hope you guys can help me cut it!

Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that is important to you. What about this quality or accomplishment makes you proud and how does it relate to the person you are?
I was in middle school when I first volunteered at a clinic. I remember being shy and quiet when I first got there. I didn't know anyone and they were all older than me. Well, not everyone. There was also a little boy who was 3 years younger than me and he was also volunteering there. So after meeting him, I started to open up. I was 12 years old then. My aunt brought me to the clinic to get my community service hours done for my middle school graduation requirements. After the first couple of days working there, I started feeling comfortable. They gave me papers to copy and shred, envelopes and postcards to stamp, and the providers’ paychecks and mail to be delivered. I also helped to make packages for patients.

After a couple of weeks, my aunt brought me downstairs to their Medical Records. It was another new environment for me, so I became shy again. There were new faces to remember, and new names to memorize. They immediately greeted me with open arms. They taught me how to make new charts for patients, find charts and put them away, and where to deliver them. Delivering the charts was always my favorite part because it allowed me to wander around the clinic with a purpose. I’m just mesmerized by the busy clinic with all of the providers and nurses running around and helping the patients. After delivering the charts, I always returned to Medical Records with a smile. Seeing all of the providers and nurses helping with a smile makes me want to smile too.

It’s been 5 years since then. I’m now 17 years old, a senior in high school, and I still volunteer at the clinic. I’m proud of myself for helping out these 5 years. Volunteering is something I love to do because I gain many experiences and memories. I not only volunteer at the clinic during my breaks, but I also volunteer as a tutor after school. Tutoring kids gave me the experience in being able to handle kids and communicate with them. I also made great memories and I hope to continue making more.

My enjoyment in volunteering has made me the person I am today because it has shaped my dream of wanting to be a nurse. I enjoy helping people and my workings with kids made me want to help and care for them too. So to reach my goal, I took a physiology class to enhance my knowledge of the body and how the body works. Each day, my teacher sparks my curiosity and my interest in learning about the body grows. My determination in wanting to help people grows with each day I learn about a new disorder and how there are no cures yet. I am proud of this part of me and I hope that I can one day achieve my dream in helping those in need.
Thanks for reading this guys! I hope you guys liked it! Feel free to leave ANY comments and it would be great if you can give me some advice or help me edit this. I'm pretty sure I went off topic, but it’s a first draft, it’s not going to be perfect. Well, hope to hear from you soon. Until then, see ya!

A Response to Evelyn Rosa’s Post

Hey Everyone! Today, I'm going to be responding to Evelyn Rosa’s Post! So I hope you like this!
So this summer I've had new experiences and many obstacles to pass though.
I had MANY experiences during my summer before senior year, but I didn’t really have obstacles to pass. One of my many experiences was getting the chance to leave the United States. When I mean “leave”, I don’t mean Canada or Mexico. That doesn’t count because they are just above or below the United States. I’ve been to both, and I don’t really consider them “leaving”, even though I am TECHNICALLY leaving. So what I meant by “leaving” was going to EUROPE. I went to Europe for like two weeks and it was amazing! I was on a cruise in the Mediterranean and I had the best time of my life! The only problem was that it was hot ALL THE TIME. But it was a great experience because it gave me a chance to go out and explore the world. I got to experience the different foods and cultures from the other side of the world! I will never forget this trip. I hope that one day I will be able to go back.

Another experience I had this summer was getting the chance to shadow nurses. Usually I volunteer at this clinic and help out to earn community service hours, but this year I was finally able to shadow the nurses. It was a real eye-opener for me because I am really interested in health and clinical services, so when I shadowed the nurses this summer, I was really happy and excited. I got to learn how to check for hemoglobin, glucose, and hemoglobin A1C. I got to watch pregnancy tests and how the nurse handled telling the patient the good or bad news. When summer ended, I was really sad, but I was also happy too because I would be starting my physiology class. Taking physiology makes me happy because it will take me one step closer in achieving my dream of being a nurse, but other                                                                      people say I should be a doctor instead.

That’s it for this post! Please join me next week and find out who I will be responding to next! Hope you liked this post! See you soon! Until then, see ya!

Day 2: On the Disney Magic at Sea

Hey Everyone! I’m back and this is my third free post. Today I'm going to write about my day on the Disney Magic. I’m just about to get on the boat. It’s an 11-night cruise on the Mediterranean. As soon as I got on the boat, I saw Mickey Mouse! He greeted me and my family when we got on the boat. Since our stateroom wasn’t ready, I just went to the buffet room for my brunch.
On the first day, the food was good. Mainly because I had nothing to eat yet, but as the days past, I realized that they had the same food, every single day. I hated eating lunch because of that! But anyway, after lunch, I went exploring. They had 3 pools, a sports court, a giant screen TV by the pool, and a teen center. My sister went off to find the college kids group. When I went to the teen center up in the Vibe, I met my first friend, Georgia. She’s from Australia. I also met her cousin, Clare. Since that day, we’ve been out playing basketball on the sports deck.
After we got to know each other more, I had to go get ready for dinner. Throughout the whole week, we had to switch between three dining rooms: Lumiere’s, Animator’s Palate, and Parrot Cay. The first night was at Lumiere’s. The food was delicious! Soon, the boat started, and we were on our way. That was the start of our Mediterranean Cruise!
That’s it for this week’s free post! My next free post will be about my first day at sea. So come back soon! Until then, see ya!

A Response to Nathan Wong's Post

Hey Everyone! I'm back and this is my second response post. Today, I'm responding to Nathan Wong's Post. Hope you like it!
Wow, I cannot believe that it is senior year already. I never knew high school would go by so fast. Homework could be an important factor that helps time go by faster because you are more preoccupied. Well since it IS senior year ( woot 2012!!!), I decided to reward myself of what I would call a dream schedule.
So the reason why I chose Nathan’s post to respond to is because I also feel that high school went by fast. I still can’t believe I'm a SENIOR now. Nathan is also right about us having to be able to reward ourselves with our “Dream Schedule”, so I gave myself a free LAST period. Originally it was suppose to be a free 5th period, but at orientation, it became a free 2nd period. I was like, “WHAT AM I SUPPOSE TO DO WITH A FREE SECOND PERIOD!?!” so I went to the councilors office and got it switched. After that, I finally got my dream schedule: A free sixth period and no Klinger. I laughed at my friends who have her for English.
After getting a sense of what my classes are like, I finally decided that English was my favorite class this year, but Physiology was my favorite subject. My best period is “sixth period”. My favorite teacher this year is Sutherland, which was the same during sophomore year. My least favorite class is Government and Economics because I hate, and always will hate the social science classes. My least favorite teacher this year is __________. Did you really think I would put this on my blog? So anyway, the only thing about my schedule that I wish I could change is my 0 period class. I HATE waking up at 5:30 every morning. I'm practically dead by the end of the day. But I’ll survive knowing it’s my LAST YEAR at this school.

So that’s it for this post. I hope you like it! Come back soon! Oh, you should probably ignore my current events posts because I hate doing those posts. Anyway, see you next week! Until then, see ya!

Day 1: Barcelona, Spain

Hey Everyone! I’m back and this is my second free post. Today, I want to talk about my Mediterranean cruise in July with my mom, step-dad, half-sister, sister, and grandparents. I left on July 7th and was basically traveling all the way until the 8th. I first had to fly to from San Francisco to Chicago, and make a transfer to Madrid. Madrid’s airport was HUGE, and they had the CLEANEST restrooms ever. I just walked right in, and I was like, “Whoa”. It literally looked like it was from a 5 star resort or something. But anyway, from Madrid, I had to fly to Barcelona, and we took a shuttle to our hotel.

I HATED that hotel. When my mom went to get our rooms, she FORGOT that we had SEVEN people, not SIX, so they had just enough beds for SIX people. Guess who had to sleep in the bed with the grandparents. That’s right, me. I was like, “Hell no!” So I slept in a very uncomfortable chair all night. But before that, we went out sightseeing and took some pictures. The pictures I took were on facebook. I wasn’t really in many pictures because it was hot and nobody wanted to help me take a picture. If I’m your friend on facebook, then you probably either saw them already, or you don’t really care. So Barcelona was cool. There were a lot of monuments there. So we ate dinner there and took the last bus back to the hotel.

The Disney Magic Cruise Ship
When we got back, my mom tried to plug her laptop into the wall. You know how the outlets are different in Europe, and that if you go, you need to bring the special adapter. So my mom, she brought the adapter, but when she looked at the outlet, she thought, “It looks similar enough. I think I don’t need it.” So she plugged it right in. Guess what happened. It sparked and blew the power out. It probably blew the power out of the whole hotel because the electricity in my room was out too. Yeah, so you could say that I had a bad experience there. So after that, we went to sleep in our comfortable beds. Well MOST of us. I had the luxury of sleeping in my COMFORTABLE chair. The next day, we woke up, got ready, and dragged our suitcases for a couple of hours in Barcelona, trying to find the bus that will take us to the port so we can board our Disney Cruise for an 11-night Mediterranean Cruise.

So that’s it for today. Next week I’ll tell you about my first day on the Disney Magic. Until then, see ya!

Rough Draft #1, Prompt #1, Biweekly #1 (UPDATED AS OF 9/28/11)

Hey Everyone! I just wanted to let you know that this is my first Biweekly and that I hope you guys can help me improve this Personal Statement. I am really bad at writing, especially essays, so don’t expect much. If you can cut some stuff from this, I would be really grateful. Just copy and paste the parts you want me to cut, and put it in my comments. Thanks!

Describe the world you come from – for example, your family, community or school – and tell us how your world has shaped your dreams and aspirations.
My parents got divorced when I was young. When I moved to Alameda in 4th grade, I lost all of my friends in Oakland. I started to rely on my family for support. The person that has always encouraged me and became my role model was my aunt. She was always there when I needed help. I was at my grandparents’ house more than my own because my mom was always working. My dad was never around back then, so I turned to my aunt because my grandparents can only speak Chinese and my aunt was always there. She would help me with my homework sometimes, take me out to see a movie, and she always had junk food at her house.

When I reached middle school, she was always busy with her own kids, but still helped me whenever she could. What made a big impact on my dreams and aspirations was my first day volunteering at Asian Health Services in Chinatown. She is a head nurse there and asked me if I wanted to go and volunteer there since I needed 20 community service hours to graduate middle school. It was the summer before 8th grade. At first I was shy, but as the days past, I began to feel comfortable there. I loved working there because when I finish with a job, I get a sense of accomplishment. I love the feeling of being able to help someone. It makes you feel good about yourself. Even though some days I only shredded paper, it still made me happy knowing I was able to help. I volunteered there for the whole summer and earned 170 hours of community service. And since then, I volunteered there every single day that I could.

My second summer, the summer before high school, I started working in their Medical Records. I pulled charts, made new charts, and even got to deliver them to the different units of the clinic. During that summer, I decided I wanted to one day work in Medical Records too. But as I spent more time delivering charts in the clinic, I also watched the doctors and nurses who helped patients every day with a smile on their face. And that’s when I realized I wanted to be a nurse. Since that day, my aunt has been my role model because she was smart, helpful, kind, and she always had a smile on her face.

My aunt inspired me to follow my dream of being a nurse. Just this last summer, I was able to shadow nurses as they take doctor’s orders and examined a patient. I watched them communicate with the patient and asked them questions to better figure out what was wrong. I watched a nurse do a pregnancy test. I also got to shadow my aunt as she was training an ex-tern. She was teaching her how to test for glucose, hemoglobin, and hemoglobin A1C. That summer was the best. I loved every minute of it.

My aunt has inspired and helped me my whole life. She was there for me when I needed her, and she is the reason why I discovered my dream of being a nurse. She also encouraged me to take Physiology this year. At first I was scared of seeing a cadaver, but she assured me that I will be okay, and I believed her. I hope that one day I can be a nurse and help people.
Thanks for reading this and I hope you comment! Please come back later this week for my weekly posts! Until then, see ya!

Gladiator-School Ruins Unveiled in Austria

Hey Everyone! This is my first Current Events Post, so tell me how I do! I suck/hate writing about current events, but I'll do my best! I already wrote two this week, so one more should be easy right? -_____-
Well, I better get use to writing about current events because I'm going to have to write three of them each week for the whole year :( Anyway, here's the first event I'm going to be talking about:

The reason why I chose this to write about is because this talks about the Gladiators and the Roman Coliseum, and I was just there in July! That’s right, I was at the Roman Coliseum and the pictures I took are right at the bottom of this post. It was so cool! I mean, it’s one thing to see it on TV or in the movies, but it’s a completely different feeling when you go see it in person. Now, back to the story. This story talks about the gladiator school that was found in Austria. It was found east to the capital, Vienna. After watching this, I was like, “It’s weird that they found a gladiator school in Austria, but it’s so cool that they were able to use radar technology to get a computer simulation of what the school used to look like in the third century. Since it’s a school, it was probably used to get people ready to fight in the coliseum in Rome.

When I was at the coliseum in Rome, I saw something like a maze below. I thought that it would be fun to play down there, but then I thought about how it must be easy for the lions to find its prey and how hard it was for the gladiator to escape from the lion and kill it. Now, I’m known for having bad memory, especially when it comes to anything related to history, so don’t mind me if I’m completely wrong about this: I remember my tour  guide saying something about how the whole place was flooded with blood. Just thinking about that creeps me out. Are they the lions’ blood, or the gladiators’ blood? Now I really don’t want to play down there lol.

OK, that’s it for this week! I made it through my first week of blogging! Let’s see how long I can keep this up. Well, I hope you guys enjoyed my posts so far, and see you next week! Until then, see ya!

Hey! My step-dad is in this pic! lol

A Response to Angela Zhou's Post

Hey Everyone! This is my first Response Post and Angela has the honor of being the first. Aren't you happy Angela? XD Anyway, here's the link to Angela's Blog.
First week of school was always novel, but it was also tiring. I was already sad at the third day of school, since it felt like the 300th day. The three-day weekend did help a little bit; at least I did not feel exhausted today. I am actually looking forward to the block schedule, so that I can leave right after 12:42p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday. That’s the kind of life a senior should have.
I TOTALLY agree with you Angela. The first week of school was just plain tiring. I mean, I did have fun meeting my new teachers and seeing my past teachers and friends again, but it was a long week. And to make matters worse, I had to go work after school, which was at 2:00 because the kids had minimum day. Luckily I only had to work Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, otherwise, I would be dead. And I got homework on my first week of school too! Since we didn’t have block schedule, I had to do all of my homework every day! Isn’t that horrible?!

This is why I agree with Angela. A senior’s life SHOULD be where they are able to get off of school at 12:42p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I’m sure everyone else agrees too, right? XD I can’t wait until Tuesday when we have our first block day…but of course it would be better if we didn’t have school, but that’s not going to happen, so this is the next best thing. I hope you like my response to your post Angela! See you Monday! XD

OK, that’s it for this post guys…one more post to go…The Current Events Post T.T
Wish me luck guys and see you next time. Until then, see ya!

OMG I'm Back!

Hey Everyone! I’m back and ready to write, write, and write some more! Last time I was here, I was a Sophomore, now I’m a....(drum roll)….SENIOR! That’s right, little (annoying, according to Michelle Galicia) Priscilla is a Senior and she’s going to make the best out of her Senior Year. Right now I’m at Michelle’s house, and my BFF is here doing her homework. I’m trying to find things to write right now because it is only the second week of school and I’m still in summer mode. I guess since I’m still in summer mode, I’ll give you a brief summary of my summer.

So in June, I basically just stayed home to sleep, eat, read, and watch TV. I mostly just read books. If I were to estimate how many books I read this summer, I would say like 30 or 40 books. I love reading books that are not for school because they don’t make me fall asleep! But at one point I was like, “There’s nothing good to read!” so I just watched TV. Now wasn’t that an interesting first month of summer? Yeah…I didn’t think so either…but next month gets better.

It's Minnie with the "girls" XD
So in July, I went to Europe for like 2 weeks. I left on July 7th and came back on July 22nd. The first day, all we did was travel. We had to fly to Chicago and make a transfer and then we had to fly to Madrid. From Madrid, we had to fly to Barcelona. The rest of the trip, I’ll tell you guys later because I’m going to need something to write for the next month or two.

I'm in Gryffindor!

When I came back, I started volunteering at this clinic in Chinatown. I’ve volunteered there for about four or five years now. I love that place. This summer I was finally able to start shadowing the nurses there. I want to be a nurse, if you didn’t know it already, so it was a really good experience for me. On the 4th, I went to see the Harry Potter movie and the next day, I flew off to Orlando, Florida for a family vacation. The rest of this trip will be shared with you guys in the future. Sorry guys, but I get writer’s block easily, so I need to save some of these stories for next time.

I hope you guys will come back and read my posts! Until then, see ya!
