A Response to Nathan Wong's Post

Hey Everyone! I'm back and this is my second response post. Today, I'm responding to Nathan Wong's Post. Hope you like it!
Wow, I cannot believe that it is senior year already. I never knew high school would go by so fast. Homework could be an important factor that helps time go by faster because you are more preoccupied. Well since it IS senior year ( woot 2012!!!), I decided to reward myself of what I would call a dream schedule.
So the reason why I chose Nathan’s post to respond to is because I also feel that high school went by fast. I still can’t believe I'm a SENIOR now. Nathan is also right about us having to be able to reward ourselves with our “Dream Schedule”, so I gave myself a free LAST period. Originally it was suppose to be a free 5th period, but at orientation, it became a free 2nd period. I was like, “WHAT AM I SUPPOSE TO DO WITH A FREE SECOND PERIOD!?!” so I went to the councilors office and got it switched. After that, I finally got my dream schedule: A free sixth period and no Klinger. I laughed at my friends who have her for English.
After getting a sense of what my classes are like, I finally decided that English was my favorite class this year, but Physiology was my favorite subject. My best period is “sixth period”. My favorite teacher this year is Sutherland, which was the same during sophomore year. My least favorite class is Government and Economics because I hate, and always will hate the social science classes. My least favorite teacher this year is __________. Did you really think I would put this on my blog? So anyway, the only thing about my schedule that I wish I could change is my 0 period class. I HATE waking up at 5:30 every morning. I'm practically dead by the end of the day. But I’ll survive knowing it’s my LAST YEAR at this school.

So that’s it for this post. I hope you like it! Come back soon! Oh, you should probably ignore my current events posts because I hate doing those posts. Anyway, see you next week! Until then, see ya!

Day 1: Barcelona, Spain

Hey Everyone! I’m back and this is my second free post. Today, I want to talk about my Mediterranean cruise in July with my mom, step-dad, half-sister, sister, and grandparents. I left on July 7th and was basically traveling all the way until the 8th. I first had to fly to from San Francisco to Chicago, and make a transfer to Madrid. Madrid’s airport was HUGE, and they had the CLEANEST restrooms ever. I just walked right in, and I was like, “Whoa”. It literally looked like it was from a 5 star resort or something. But anyway, from Madrid, I had to fly to Barcelona, and we took a shuttle to our hotel.

I HATED that hotel. When my mom went to get our rooms, she FORGOT that we had SEVEN people, not SIX, so they had just enough beds for SIX people. Guess who had to sleep in the bed with the grandparents. That’s right, me. I was like, “Hell no!” So I slept in a very uncomfortable chair all night. But before that, we went out sightseeing and took some pictures. The pictures I took were on facebook. I wasn’t really in many pictures because it was hot and nobody wanted to help me take a picture. If I’m your friend on facebook, then you probably either saw them already, or you don’t really care. So Barcelona was cool. There were a lot of monuments there. So we ate dinner there and took the last bus back to the hotel.

The Disney Magic Cruise Ship
When we got back, my mom tried to plug her laptop into the wall. You know how the outlets are different in Europe, and that if you go, you need to bring the special adapter. So my mom, she brought the adapter, but when she looked at the outlet, she thought, “It looks similar enough. I think I don’t need it.” So she plugged it right in. Guess what happened. It sparked and blew the power out. It probably blew the power out of the whole hotel because the electricity in my room was out too. Yeah, so you could say that I had a bad experience there. So after that, we went to sleep in our comfortable beds. Well MOST of us. I had the luxury of sleeping in my COMFORTABLE chair. The next day, we woke up, got ready, and dragged our suitcases for a couple of hours in Barcelona, trying to find the bus that will take us to the port so we can board our Disney Cruise for an 11-night Mediterranean Cruise.

So that’s it for today. Next week I’ll tell you about my first day on the Disney Magic. Until then, see ya!

Rough Draft #1, Prompt #1, Biweekly #1 (UPDATED AS OF 9/28/11)

Hey Everyone! I just wanted to let you know that this is my first Biweekly and that I hope you guys can help me improve this Personal Statement. I am really bad at writing, especially essays, so don’t expect much. If you can cut some stuff from this, I would be really grateful. Just copy and paste the parts you want me to cut, and put it in my comments. Thanks!

Describe the world you come from – for example, your family, community or school – and tell us how your world has shaped your dreams and aspirations.
My parents got divorced when I was young. When I moved to Alameda in 4th grade, I lost all of my friends in Oakland. I started to rely on my family for support. The person that has always encouraged me and became my role model was my aunt. She was always there when I needed help. I was at my grandparents’ house more than my own because my mom was always working. My dad was never around back then, so I turned to my aunt because my grandparents can only speak Chinese and my aunt was always there. She would help me with my homework sometimes, take me out to see a movie, and she always had junk food at her house.

When I reached middle school, she was always busy with her own kids, but still helped me whenever she could. What made a big impact on my dreams and aspirations was my first day volunteering at Asian Health Services in Chinatown. She is a head nurse there and asked me if I wanted to go and volunteer there since I needed 20 community service hours to graduate middle school. It was the summer before 8th grade. At first I was shy, but as the days past, I began to feel comfortable there. I loved working there because when I finish with a job, I get a sense of accomplishment. I love the feeling of being able to help someone. It makes you feel good about yourself. Even though some days I only shredded paper, it still made me happy knowing I was able to help. I volunteered there for the whole summer and earned 170 hours of community service. And since then, I volunteered there every single day that I could.

My second summer, the summer before high school, I started working in their Medical Records. I pulled charts, made new charts, and even got to deliver them to the different units of the clinic. During that summer, I decided I wanted to one day work in Medical Records too. But as I spent more time delivering charts in the clinic, I also watched the doctors and nurses who helped patients every day with a smile on their face. And that’s when I realized I wanted to be a nurse. Since that day, my aunt has been my role model because she was smart, helpful, kind, and she always had a smile on her face.

My aunt inspired me to follow my dream of being a nurse. Just this last summer, I was able to shadow nurses as they take doctor’s orders and examined a patient. I watched them communicate with the patient and asked them questions to better figure out what was wrong. I watched a nurse do a pregnancy test. I also got to shadow my aunt as she was training an ex-tern. She was teaching her how to test for glucose, hemoglobin, and hemoglobin A1C. That summer was the best. I loved every minute of it.

My aunt has inspired and helped me my whole life. She was there for me when I needed her, and she is the reason why I discovered my dream of being a nurse. She also encouraged me to take Physiology this year. At first I was scared of seeing a cadaver, but she assured me that I will be okay, and I believed her. I hope that one day I can be a nurse and help people.
Thanks for reading this and I hope you comment! Please come back later this week for my weekly posts! Until then, see ya!

Gladiator-School Ruins Unveiled in Austria

Hey Everyone! This is my first Current Events Post, so tell me how I do! I suck/hate writing about current events, but I'll do my best! I already wrote two this week, so one more should be easy right? -_____-
Well, I better get use to writing about current events because I'm going to have to write three of them each week for the whole year :( Anyway, here's the first event I'm going to be talking about:

The reason why I chose this to write about is because this talks about the Gladiators and the Roman Coliseum, and I was just there in July! That’s right, I was at the Roman Coliseum and the pictures I took are right at the bottom of this post. It was so cool! I mean, it’s one thing to see it on TV or in the movies, but it’s a completely different feeling when you go see it in person. Now, back to the story. This story talks about the gladiator school that was found in Austria. It was found east to the capital, Vienna. After watching this, I was like, “It’s weird that they found a gladiator school in Austria, but it’s so cool that they were able to use radar technology to get a computer simulation of what the school used to look like in the third century. Since it’s a school, it was probably used to get people ready to fight in the coliseum in Rome.

When I was at the coliseum in Rome, I saw something like a maze below. I thought that it would be fun to play down there, but then I thought about how it must be easy for the lions to find its prey and how hard it was for the gladiator to escape from the lion and kill it. Now, I’m known for having bad memory, especially when it comes to anything related to history, so don’t mind me if I’m completely wrong about this: I remember my tour  guide saying something about how the whole place was flooded with blood. Just thinking about that creeps me out. Are they the lions’ blood, or the gladiators’ blood? Now I really don’t want to play down there lol.

OK, that’s it for this week! I made it through my first week of blogging! Let’s see how long I can keep this up. Well, I hope you guys enjoyed my posts so far, and see you next week! Until then, see ya!

Hey! My step-dad is in this pic! lol

A Response to Angela Zhou's Post

Hey Everyone! This is my first Response Post and Angela has the honor of being the first. Aren't you happy Angela? XD Anyway, here's the link to Angela's Blog.
First week of school was always novel, but it was also tiring. I was already sad at the third day of school, since it felt like the 300th day. The three-day weekend did help a little bit; at least I did not feel exhausted today. I am actually looking forward to the block schedule, so that I can leave right after 12:42p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday. That’s the kind of life a senior should have.
I TOTALLY agree with you Angela. The first week of school was just plain tiring. I mean, I did have fun meeting my new teachers and seeing my past teachers and friends again, but it was a long week. And to make matters worse, I had to go work after school, which was at 2:00 because the kids had minimum day. Luckily I only had to work Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, otherwise, I would be dead. And I got homework on my first week of school too! Since we didn’t have block schedule, I had to do all of my homework every day! Isn’t that horrible?!

This is why I agree with Angela. A senior’s life SHOULD be where they are able to get off of school at 12:42p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I’m sure everyone else agrees too, right? XD I can’t wait until Tuesday when we have our first block day…but of course it would be better if we didn’t have school, but that’s not going to happen, so this is the next best thing. I hope you like my response to your post Angela! See you Monday! XD

OK, that’s it for this post guys…one more post to go…The Current Events Post T.T
Wish me luck guys and see you next time. Until then, see ya!

OMG I'm Back!

Hey Everyone! I’m back and ready to write, write, and write some more! Last time I was here, I was a Sophomore, now I’m a....(drum roll)….SENIOR! That’s right, little (annoying, according to Michelle Galicia) Priscilla is a Senior and she’s going to make the best out of her Senior Year. Right now I’m at Michelle’s house, and my BFF is here doing her homework. I’m trying to find things to write right now because it is only the second week of school and I’m still in summer mode. I guess since I’m still in summer mode, I’ll give you a brief summary of my summer.

So in June, I basically just stayed home to sleep, eat, read, and watch TV. I mostly just read books. If I were to estimate how many books I read this summer, I would say like 30 or 40 books. I love reading books that are not for school because they don’t make me fall asleep! But at one point I was like, “There’s nothing good to read!” so I just watched TV. Now wasn’t that an interesting first month of summer? Yeah…I didn’t think so either…but next month gets better.

It's Minnie with the "girls" XD
So in July, I went to Europe for like 2 weeks. I left on July 7th and came back on July 22nd. The first day, all we did was travel. We had to fly to Chicago and make a transfer and then we had to fly to Madrid. From Madrid, we had to fly to Barcelona. The rest of the trip, I’ll tell you guys later because I’m going to need something to write for the next month or two.

I'm in Gryffindor!

When I came back, I started volunteering at this clinic in Chinatown. I’ve volunteered there for about four or five years now. I love that place. This summer I was finally able to start shadowing the nurses there. I want to be a nurse, if you didn’t know it already, so it was a really good experience for me. On the 4th, I went to see the Harry Potter movie and the next day, I flew off to Orlando, Florida for a family vacation. The rest of this trip will be shared with you guys in the future. Sorry guys, but I get writer’s block easily, so I need to save some of these stories for next time.

I hope you guys will come back and read my posts! Until then, see ya!

Final: Past, Present, and Future

Hey everyone! This is going to be the final thing I will posts onto my blog for the school year. This is my second semester final for English. I hope you guys like it!

How do the things you read influence what you write about or how you write it? The books I read influence what I write because as I am reading, I am getting some fresh topics to write about in great detail. When I read a book, I sometimes fantasize what will happen next, or what I wish to happen next. Those are some good topics for blogs. When I have enough solid info or things to say, then I write about it. Like the Lit Circle Letters we have to write to our partners who are reading the same books. I read a total of 4 books that involves writing Lit Circle Letters. The books include Wild Magic by Tamora Pierce, The Curious Incident of The Dog in the Night-time by Mark Haddon, The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks, and An Alex Rider Adventure: Snakehead by Anthony Horowitz. Out of these 4 books, the book I hated the most was The Curious Incident of The Dog in The Night-Time. It wasn't that I hated it, it was more the fact that it isn't my type of book. First, I like dogs, so why would I read about a dead dog. Second, I only read teen fiction. This was not very interesting, and I found that it did not grab my attention. This made it hard to write about because I didn't have very much to say, and I didn't have very many facts and information on this book to blog about. This made how I write different from my other blog posts because I had to find some way to make my blog post reach all of the requirements, like reaching the number of words needed for each blog post. Then my writing style drastically changes when I start taking the long way. What I mean is that each and every sentence has extra words in them. They contain words that aren't needed unless they need to make sentences longer, but contains the same meaning. I had to use this writing style many times because I usually don't have anything to say and I needed to make 500 words for my Lit Circle letters. I hope that in the future, I will eventually stop using this style of writing and start writing everything in my usual style. That will show how greatly my writing skills have improved over the years.

How do you like having a blog? How has blogging changed the way you write, the way you think, or the way you think about writing? Do you plan on continuing to publish writing on your blog this summer, next year, or beyond? If so, what are your writing goals and how will you use your blog in the future? I like having a blog because it is a fun way of writing for school and you can greatly improve your skills as a writer. It also allows you to easily share your writing with the people around you and get feedback on how you can improve in your writing even more. You can also see the writing styles used by the students around you to greatly gain experience. Another reason for why I like blogs is because we don't have to sit around and write boring essays and read the boring class books. Blogging is a way to express yourself and write about anything you want with any style you want. Essays have topics you need to write about and you can't go, "Oh my gosh, did you see this person going to the mall yesterday with that guy? They looked totally cute together." You can't write like that. You must follow the basic rules to writing a an essay. That is why I prefer blogging rather than writing an essay. Blogging, however, has not changed the way I think or the way I think about writing. I learned throughout the school year that I like blogging. It is a way to write about anything you want, so I have decided to continue blogging even after school is over. It might not be as often, but I guarantee that there will be at least 1 or 2 new posts after the school year is over, depending on how busy my schedule is. I don't really have any writing goals. I just want to do it for fun. It is also a way to keep in contact with some of the people in my class.

Where do you get your ideas for blog post topics? What inspires you to write? That is a good question. It depends on the timing. Like sometimes I am reading a really good book, so I have lots of things to say. Other times, there are important events in my life that gives me the motivation to keep on writing. For example, when I was reading The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong, I learned that I really like the book. This gave me the inspiration to write my own version of the book of how I want the story to go. I called it, The Journal Of Chloe Saunders. When I wrote Part 1 to The Journal Of Chloe Saunders, and reread it, I truly believed that this was my best blog post throughout the whole school year. It showed how much my writing has improved throughout the year and especially since last year. It was fun writing about a book that I liked, and changing it to the way I want it to play out. When the idea first popped into my mind, I thought it would be very difficult to write, but it turned out to be very easy, and I liked writing that way. It was a fun experience. The events in my life that inspired me to write were important things like holidays to birthday to weddings. The most recent events were things like my Uncle's Wedding or the birth of twin boys on Cinco de Mayo. At first they inspired me to write, but in the end, I didn't have enough information to write with, so I then moved on to random things like writing about what Melissa Chung is wearing to they bug bites on her body. One of my most accomplishing series of blog posts that involved writing about a part of my life is, My Alaskan Cruise 2009. This series of blog posts included a weeks worth of fun in the Alaskan sun. It was technically considered my very first blog post so it is very important to me. Part 1 in Juneau, Alaska, was written on my birthday, so that one in the series was super important to me. To sum up what I have just explained, I basically get my topics from everywhere around me. At the beginning of the school year, I had a very hard time finding a topic to write about, but as time moved on, I eventually got used to writing blogs posts and eventually, things got easier too because now I have experience and practice with them.

That's all I have for you folks today. Hopefully I will have some time this summer to write and I hope you guys will be there when I start writing again. See you guys next time. Until then, see ya!
